Why we exist

Education is the shortest route out of poverty

For over five decades, ATM has worked to create that route for every child in South Gujarat, regardless of background.

Our purpose

Anjumane Talimul Muslimeen exists to bridge the education gap in South Gujarat — so that every child, whatever their family can afford, can learn, and build a better life on it.

Our vision

To uplift the underprivileged and impoverished segment of society through education, giving every child the opportunity for a better life.

We envision a future where every child in South Gujarat has the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to their community. Education is the foundation of lasting change, and we are committed to making it accessible to all.

Our mission

To empower young minds with competence and knowledge through education.

To achieve excellence in education through meaningful, productive partnerships.

We achieve this through a residential school, a hostel for underserved students, a scholarship programme for higher education, and a maktab for character education — one pathway from childhood to a career.

What we commit to

Four commitments, written into the founding objects

These are not aspirations. Each one is traceable to the objects the Trust registered in 1971.

  • Education without discrimination

    Support is provided regardless of community, caste or background. Any child may study at the Trust school.

  • Service, not profit

    Fundraising is carried out without intention to profit earning — a phrase written into the Trust's founding objects.

  • Community-rooted

    Governed by and accountable to the communities of Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad and Dang.

  • Transparency

    Scholarship disbursement records have been kept and published since 1971.

The Trust’s founding objects and vision statement describe a longer-term expansion. These are aspirations listed on the current Vision page — they are not active programmes unless ATM confirms otherwise.

  • A dedicated girls' hostel

    Planned

    A residential facility for girls from underserved communities.

  • An extended school complex

    Planned

    College, ITI and polytechnic facilities on the main campus.

  • Technical and vocational training

    Planned

    Skills for self-employment, including tailoring and embroidery classes for girls, women and widows.

  • A computer education centre

    Planned

    Basic and applied computer training for students and the wider village.

  • A community hospital

    Planned

    A free or low-cost medical facility for the surrounding villages.

  • Free vacation coaching

    Planned

    Holiday classes to help students clear Std. X.
